Developing a National Strategy
to End Child Sexual Abuse
Journal of Child Sexual Abuse
Arguably there is greater public awareness of child sexual abuse and a larger number of professionals devoted to
research, advocacy, intervention, and prevention than at any time in history. The popular media routinely cover
incidents of the sexual abuse of children in families and virtually every type of youth-serving organization and yet
there is no mass movement to end child sexual abuse.
The JCSA announced a call for abstracts describing proposed papers on one of the following topics:
- What has worked and not worked in an effort to engage the public in efforts to prevent sexual abuse (public awareness)?
- Why is there no national movement to end child sexual abuse?
- What may be a worthwhile effort to gain larger support for the prevention of sexual abuse?
Abstracts may be submitted by scholars, advocates, prevention professionals, and others representing any
discipline, level of activity, or focus. Submission of an abstract represents a commitment to prepare a paper if
accepted. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and describe which of the questions above is being
addressed and the basic ideas of the proposed paper. Final papers may be based on research, practical experience,
or wisdom gained from years in the field.
Abstracts and final papers should include the following:
- A statement that the work will be an Original Article (not published elsewhere, not submitted concurrently)
- Manuscript Type -review of research, research-based, practice-based, or ideas based on wisdom gained in the field
- Two copies of the Abstract including: one copy with Author information, and one without Author details (anonymous).
- APA 7th Ed. Format including Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spaced, references with in-text citations. The abstract should describe an estimate of the final paper length. Papers from five to no more than 30 pages (double-spaced) including tables/figures/references
